As an adult you have developed methods and shortcuts for processing information quickly and formed a routine to carry out daily tasks without effort. This system is engraved in our being to save time, energy and sometimes money. But what are the repercussions of our routine systems? ERRORS

Your brains is a very unique organ, capable of producing chemicals in your body to enhance your focus. By using a visualization of fear the brain is activated and stimulated. This stimulation produces the chemical Epinephrine, AKA adrenaline. Adrenaline elevates your heart rate, boosts your blood pressure and increases sugar levels in the bloodstream which promotes brain activity. Your brain is an ever changing organ and needs to be stimulated in order to grow and develop. Keeping your brain active is not the only thing you can do to stay sharp. Exercising, hydrating properly and eating healthy are important factors to not only keeping your brain healthy but your body as well. Helping your brain stay fit and active is very important in each of our daily routines. With a fit brain we stay less distracted and more focused on the task at hand.

As we get older we feel like it is much harder to grasp new concepts and to learn new things, but the truth is that we have instilled "ruts" in our learning habits. When our learning patterns become habitual our brain function is reduced. Think of your brain as a muscle and like a muscle it needs to be used in different ways to stay fit. The more changes you include in your daily routine the more your brain works and therefore it will be easier to process new information. You can now begin to reshape your brain and stay sharp by breaking your normal routines, shake it up a little daily. For example, try using your opposite hand to control the mouse on your computer. I bet you can feel the stimulation of your brain as your body deciphers the information of opposite controlling movements. Simple changes can help you stay focused and promote a healthier brain. When your brain is fit, your ability to make better decisions, problem solve, and think more creatively will dramatically improve! As supervisors, managers and leaders it is our responsibility to keep our brains as well as our bodies fit and healthy.
