plantingseedsI was reminiscing with my wife this morning and I recalled how my Momma always told me that anything you plant on Good Friday would grow. Being a doubting Thomas, like I am, she thought she would show me that she was telling the truth...

Early the next day she got one of the snuff tins (we used snuff tin's and snuff jars for drinking glasses) and planted a pinto bean early on Good Friday morning. We set the tin on a wooden window sill, and I watered it plenty. It's a good thing she had a saucer under it for the holes to drain the extra water onto.

Easter was a very important holiday for Momma, at that time I wasn't sure why, but I did know we always planted our garden on Good Friday. Momma had our garden area prepared for weeks.

One of my earliest memories is waking up to go to Mrs. Murphy's 1st grade class on Monday morning after Easter. And going to the window sill I saw the beginning of a bean plant, exciting stuff for a 5 year old.

My momma had a way to make me wonder if it was her magic that made the seed turn into a plant, just like she told me it would. Even though she tried telling me it was God's miracle and not hers.

What I finally realize after all these years, is the real seed she was planting was within me. And as time goes on I am forever over watering, forgetting to water, etc. But with God's help, like sometimes putting a saucer under it, or what ever I needed to keep from making a mess. God has been faithful and has taken care of my messes. I consider this the greatest of my Mommas magic tricks, for me to understand that it's not about me. The magic of achieving happiness, is about the Love I have for others. Christ died that day because of his Love for you and others.

And on this Good Friday/Easter Sunday season remember this - I Love You! And it's my Momma's fault.

For my loving kids, family and friends.
